How to Make the Best Mocha at Home

The mocha is a classic and well-loved coffee shop choice of drink. It is a classic blend of hot chocolate and coffee and with your favourite milk makes for a delicious and warming beverage.

Mochas can easily be made at home, saving you money and time instead of walking or going to your local cafe or coffee shop.

Our guide can be easily adjusted to your own tastebuds, so whether you like it stronger or more chocolatey, add or take out what suits you.

What you’ll need:

  • 17g ground espresso or one pod
  • 150ml milk or dairy-free alternative
  • 1-2 tsp of drinking chocolate
  • Your favourite mug or cup

Optional:

  • One tsp of a sweetener (if you prefer)
  • Whisk or automated whisk

Step 1: Prepare the Chocolate

Mix the drinking chocolate with boiling water and mix until small froth forms. Using a whisk or automated whisk here can help to get a smooth consistency and cafe-like smoothness.

Step 2: Make an Espresso Shot

Prepare your espresso shot either from your coffee machine or from your Nespresso machine. Using a Nespresso machine with pods will be a much quicker way to brew your coffee but the depth of taste will be better from a decent espresso machine.

Once the coffee is ready and done, let it sit for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Froth Your Milk

Now prepare your milk. We advise for the best results to steam or froth your milk via your coffee machine or milk frother. But if not, you can still achieve delicious results by heating your milk in a saucepan for 5- 10 minutes. Then set aside.

Step 4: Combine the Chocolate and Coffee

Now reach for the drinking chocolate and combine this with your espresso shot until you get a smooth consistency.

Step 5: Add Your Milk

Add the hot, frothed or steamed milk to your base of drinking chocolate and espresso and fill to your desired amount.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

For extra sweetness, add a little grated chocolate or sprinkle drinking chocolate for the perfect topping for you mocha.
